Your passport number, your arrival date and your address in Malaysia are checked against each other before your MDAC is filed, not after.

The MDAC is the Malaysia arrival card every foreign visitor completes before entering the country. It is tied to your passport, it can only be filed in the three days before you arrive, and Malaysia immigration checks it when you reach the counter.

The Malaysia Digital Arrival Card, or MDAC, is the electronic Malaysia entry form that replaced the paper card travellers used to fill in before landing. It has applied to foreign visitors since January 2024, at every point of entry in the country.
Your Malaysia arrival card records your passport details, your flight or crossing, your arrival date and where you are staying. Everything on it is tied to your passport, so the details have to match your travel documents exactly. A passport number with one character wrong, or an arrival date that does not match your booking, is the most common reason a traveller is held up at the Malaysia immigration desk.
Each traveller needs their own Malaysia Digital Arrival Card. That includes children, whose forms a parent completes. A family of four is four separate arrival cards, not one shared entry.
You will see it under several names. MDAC Malaysia, Malaysia arrival card online, Malaysia immigration card, digital arrival card Malaysia and simply the Malaysia entry card all point at the same document. Whichever of those brought you here, this is where you complete it.
The arrival card Malaysia requires today is entirely electronic. There is no paper Malaysia arrival form handed out on the plane any more, and nothing to collect on landing. What you carry is the confirmation, and it lives in your inbox.

This is the detail that catches people out, and it is worth being precise about. Your MDAC can only be filed in the three days before you arrive in Malaysia. Not a month ahead, not a week ahead. Seventy-two hours.
That window is narrow and it opens exactly when you are busiest. If you are flying in on a long-haul route with a connection, it may open while you are already travelling. If you are crossing by land from Thailand, it opens while you are still on the road.
Send us your passport and travel details whenever suits you, today if you like. We prepare your MDAC Malaysia application now, hold it ready, and file it the moment your window opens. Your confirmation reaches your inbox the same day.
Every point of entry, and that matters more in Malaysia than in most countries, because so many travellers arrive by land.
If you are flying, it covers KLIA and KLIA2 in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, Langkawi, Johor Bahru Senai and every other international airport in the country.
If you are crossing by land it applies just the same. Travellers coming over the Causeway or the Second Link into Johor Bahru need a Malaysia arrival card, and so do those crossing from Thailand at Bukit Kayu Hitam or Padang Besar, and from Brunei into Sarawak. There is no separate form for arriving by road and no separate Malaysia entry card for a land border. One MDAC covers your entry wherever you cross.
The same applies by sea, at the ferry terminals in Penang, Langkawi and Johor. Your Malaysia immigration arrival card is the same document at a jetty as at a terminal gate. Every entry Malaysia processes runs through that one form, whether you arrive at a terminal gate, a causeway lane or a ferry berth.
If your trip involves leaving Malaysia and returning, each entry needs its own MDAC. Travellers doing a Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur loop are often surprised by that, and it is worth planning for before you book.
A Malaysia visa is permission to enter the country, and whether you need one depends on your nationality and how long you plan to stay. Many nationalities enter Malaysia without applying for a visa at all, and others arrange a Malaysia visa on arrival.
The MDAC is not a visa and does not replace one. It is the arrival form, and it applies whichever route brought you. Whether you enter under a visa exemption, on a visa arranged in advance, or with a Malaysia visa on arrival, your Malaysia Digital Arrival Card is the same requirement.
That cuts both ways. If you have found that you need a visa, you still need the MDAC on top of it. And if you have found that you do not need a visa at all, do not assume there is nothing left to file. There is, and this is it.
Your visa is the part to sort out weeks ahead. Your Malaysia arrival card is the part that waits until the final three days, and it is the part we handle.
Malaysia immigration checks your arrival card when you reach the inspection desk, and the officer sees it linked to the passport you hand over. A Malaysia immigration form that has been filed correctly, with details matching the passport in front of them, is the shortest version of that conversation.
The busiest crossings are the ones where this matters most. The Johor Bahru land checkpoints handle enormous volumes every day, and so does KLIA at peak arrival hours. Nobody in those queues wants to be the traveller filling in a form on a phone with a weak signal.
Filing your immigration Malaysia online before you leave home is what turns a queue into a passport scan. The Malaysia arrival form itself is short. What matters is that every field on it agrees with your passport, and that is the part we check.
Almost every problem with an MDAC comes down to a mismatch between the form and the passport, and that is exactly what we look for before yours goes in.
Every Malaysia arrival card we send has been read by a person first.
